The competing reasoning
Show dissents and concurrences distinctly. A dissent can suggest another path; it does not decide the case.
The path over time
Trace whether later courts follow, distinguish, reject, or adopt earlier reasoning. Treat stages of one appeal as one connected proceeding.
The limits of the evidence
Show missing authorities and uncertainty. Published judgments do not represent all disputes or society’s views.
